Thaipusam 2009
I took a short break for a month, been quite busy at home with Daddy taking up a new challenge at work which gives him the flexibility to work from home. It was up to me to keep him company and ensure a good working environment ...
Here are some shots taken at Batu Caves during the recent Thaipusam celebration. Daddy and I got our heads shaved on the eve of the festival.
We fulfilled our vows a day earlier fearing the extensive crowd that was bound to be there by late evening until the end of the festival the day after.
This is how Batu Caves used to look like many years ago, I took this photo in a restaurant where they had the original hung up for patrons to look at.
The crowds were already piling up. Large number of stalls were put up selling variety of items.
We returned back later at night to savour the beauty of the extraordinary silver chariot.
The fun doesn't end with food and clothing stalls, there was a huge fun fair put up to create a carnival like atmosphere. I was surely not going to miss this, so we went on some of the less stressful rides.
The best part were the 'Singh Sweets'. With the amount of choices they had, daddy only allowed me to have 1 selection.
Shopping continued till wee hours in the morning and there was no reduction in the crowd. We headed back right after dinner.
We couldn't go up to the hill temple so we decided to return the following friday to perform our prayers there. That's me trying to run away from Grandma's clutches and yes that's my new look.
The view from on top of the hills was breath taking. Here's a video of a kavadi bearer walking towards the hill temple. The drum beat was really something.
