Movie Date with Daddy!

Last weekend both daddy and I went to the movies. Why is this so special? well that's because it's the first time we both went together ... just the both of us!
We booked the tickets for the morning show at the TGV in Metro Prima, Kepong.
Couldn't have picked a better movie. Kung Fu Panda 2. Satya 'Tigress' jothey, the strongest and boldest of the Furious Five. Daddy 'The Dragon Warrior Po', fits him to T for they both are circular in shape and hairy all over, minus the top.
Surprisingly crowded for a movie that was running for more than a month which is easily said to be one of the best animation films in recent times. We opted for the couple's seat, geared with drinks and popcorn for loads of fun.
Since Po's all into food, my personal Po whipped this up for dinner that night. Fusilli (Twisted Spaghetti) in cheese and herb cream sauce served with pan fried mixed vegetables and chopped lettuce for garnishing. It was a Kung Fu Panda day alright.

Another Colouring Competition

Interestingly, my 2nd shot at a colour competition was yet again at Hong Leong Bank. They are big on community activities leveraged to offer banking services and to promote their presence in a fun manner.
Free Ice-cream!! If this is not fun filled enough, I'm not sure what else would be. I got the note not because daddy was a customer of theirs but they took the trouble to distribute fliers at school. All out promotion.
Last Saturday was divided to 2 sessions and I got myself a place in the 11am slot. Despite the free ice-cream offer, the place wasn't pouring with kids ... surprisingly.
Penchant for modern art, my take on smurfs (the given picture to colour) was a version not limited to their traditional blue skin. I attempted a sketch like feel but it kinda back fired.
A number of seasoned competition goers came well prepared and they certainly didn't disappoint getting a little trophy for themselves. Though I was happy with my work, it does need serious corrective measures.
The rest of us outside the top 3 were presented a certificate of attendance for our efforts.
But the whole idea of an ice-cream day didn't shine as much. To get one, I needed a pre-registered coupon, a sign off next to the freezer and then proceed to pick one in the presence of these gentlemen. A little exaggerated I must say but knowing Malaysians ... it was an advisable move.

Toddling @ Kuala Selangor

A week into the Mid Year break, a whirlwind of activities the week before needs a trip far out to top them. Destination: Kuala Selangor!

The day trip yesterday kick started after breakfast at home, surprisingly our first stop was at a warehouse clearance at the Kuala Selangor PKNS building. There's always time for some shopping .. ;-)
Stocking the boot with clothes and shoes we drove down to Taman Alam / Nature Park before boarding the tram to Bukit Melawati. It's more of an information center managed by the Malaysian Nature Society.
The office was loaded with information on flora & fauna found in Kuala Selangor. There were some samples and photos but for the experience, a hike into the mangroves and mudflats is needed. Skipping that for now.
Being a Sunday the crowd thronged the place and there was a rush each time an empty tram came by. It was 3 ringgit per head and free for me. The ride took us on a scenic tour up Bukit Melawati and the Freshwater fish aquarium.
It was an enjoyable ride and the best part, you can get on and off for as many times as you like with a valid daily pass. 1 too many trip with monkeys all around ... once is good enough.
By 1pm we took a detour from town and headed out to a village by the river where this restaurant was. It's huge and caters halal servings only. Halal here means the preparation is in accordance to the law and permissible for muslims to consume.

We tried all the fancy dish and surprisingly the bill turned out very reasonable. A meal like that in KL town would have easily cost double. Enjoying the city by car, we ended up at all the norms, Tesco, local apparel stores and Old Town White Coffee for evening tea. Sounds cliche but with every town aspiring to be another KL, you tend to bump into familiar setup every where in Malaysia.
On our way back, just after Ijok town, we saw a sign pointing to a rabbit farm. 35km deep into the village from the main road we stumbled upon this mini heaven. Nicely setup, the farm sells rabbit both for business and people wanting a pet.
A substantial amount of place was allocated for kids to play with and feed the rabbits. I never really had a thing for rabbits but the cuddly creatures felt like toy dolls when you held on to them.

Missed the sunset from Bukit Melawati and the Fireflies, but that gives me a reason to return.

Daddy's new Gadget!

2 nights back, Daddy made a staggering investment (so he claims). Nifty new release from Nikon .. The D5100. The 'upper-entry-level' DSLR is aimed at beginners growing up from a budget model.
Daddy graduates from his trusty C902 mobile phone which takes decent pictures with it's 5megapixel sensor. The lovely pictures in my blog were all fed by the little wonder. He definitely sticks to it for quick shots and saves the black beauty for holidays and big events.

This was a major strike off from his 'Must Have Gadgets' list which comprises of a new Blackberry, a tablet PC and a few more interesting stuff. Switching to Nikon was timely with the introduction of this affordable piece since daddy had the Sony NEX-5 on his list for close to a year.

I've been throwing some fancy points I picked up from music class at Krista; Crotchet, 2 black keys, 3 black keys, high and low note hoping to get my must have electric keyboard into daddy's list. Wish me luck!
