1Malaysia Community Carnival

The state Department of Information held the district level 1Malaysia Community Carnival at the Segambut tamil school yesterday. It was a nearby neighbourhood so we decided to pay a visit after breakfast.
It attracted many from in and around the area with heaps of activities for both children and adults. Since it was a government sponsored event, they served breakfast, handed out goodie bags, prizes for the activities and celebrities turnout to spice things up.
The Tabika (government funded nursery) kids were invited for the colouring competition. I was eligible despite being in it but had to sit out due to overwhelming response. We received little gifts as a sign of good gesture for not being able to participate. 'Nough said, I was both impressed and happy.
I got good remarks on my teeth at the free dental check-up booth. This one had not many takers but the booth carrying out free blood pressure reading had parents queuing all the way out in the sun.
The booth with most kids hanging out was the one by the wildlife department. Not a regular fixture at family carnivals hence the curiosity. 1 Malaysia Community Blog

Krista Sports Day - Battle Galactica!

I've been spending the day recuperating from a super charged Sunday filled with running, cheering, jeering and tons of laughing. It was Sports Day at Krista, a collaborative effort by 8 centers in and around KL.

We've been practicing for a month towards D-day that took place at the Panasonic Sports Complex, Shah Alam. At lightning speed, running was the least of my concerns. Memorizing the sports day pledge... tough.

We gathered by 7.45am and upon registration we each received a gift pack with drinks, mini bites and sample products. We paired up with the Setia Alam center to form the Green team. My personal cheer team and others were seated at the stands with a relatively poor birds eye view.
It didn't take daddy and other eager parents long to wave their cameras as justification for hanging around the games arena. My friends and I were dazed by the constant camera flash glare.
There's a theme every year and this year's was 'The Battle of Krista Galactica'. For the 4 year olds, we were lined up for the alien vs. alien challenge. The props gave a sense of confidence that the run wasn't gonna be complicated.
When our turn came, Teacher Tan briefed us on what needs to be done and reminded us of all the trainings we had and gave a much needed morale boost with good amount of motivation. I was ecstatic.
No straight sprint here. Series of obstacles, crawling through, grabbing a ring and tossing it before racing back. Some of my friends were missing their parents heaps and didn't pay much attention. There goes 1st place.
Principal Sarah (in black jeans) had some strategic ideas and made couple of last minute re-arrangements to the line up in view of our opponents, I was made a key anchor for a dazzling finish.
A rush of adrenaline hit me and I made a run I was in awe of. My finishing needed some work and certainly next year I would make the best of it.
We did okay. A commendable effort earning ourselves a medal and hopefully improving on the position next year.

Smart Kids Fair - 10th Anniversary

My 2nd year here and having decided on school this was an opportunity to explore the big players within kids education scene on their offerings these days. (http://www.smartkids.com.my/2011/)
We missed the online Pre-registration hence dashed 2 hours ahead to be caught in the swarming crowd at the counters.
Good thing daddy packed breakfast so we both had a 'Que picnic' while curious onlookers gazed intently. Brilliant work by the organizers on the airport lounge setup before boarding the plane to kids world.
My journey was pretty packed with a number of 'tests' by the exhibitors to give an indication of where I stand and how I would fit in their program. Daddy was headstrong and didn't fall for the sales gimmicks. We were there to have fun and that we certainly did.
This was a pretty nifty tool, a pen that can be used on any surface including painted walls and be erased with no effort at all. We would have got them to hone my graffiti skills if it wasn't for the price.
These 2 mascots on break kept us in stitches with a curious bystander who was eager to be part of it.
